Finder Shelves

For those of you who like to prettify your Mac as much as possible have probably came across background images designed to look likes shelves. Great for your Applications or Movies  folders.

The issue-
In OSX 10.6 when you apply this to the Finder background it just shows up as blank white space. Reason being is 10.6 has a height restriction on the images you use for the backgrounds. This can be simply overcome by cropping your downloaded shelf background. It seems the restriction is set to around a 2000px height with a 4000px width.

How To-
In the folder you want to apply the image simply press CMD+J to bring up view options, or go to View->Show View Options in the Finder menu.

Note: this can only be done when using icon view

Under Background choose Picture and drag the cropped image and voila’. You may need to adjust the icon size/grid spacing in order for everything to line up.
